ICCM welcomes anyone interested in Irish culture and maritime traditions. ICCM friends support the club by helping with maintenance and representing the club at various Celtic and rowing events locally and nationally. ICCM rowers range from those who want the unique opportunity to work out on Lake Michigan to those who want competitive challenges and are training for NACA regattas. Unlike college crew boats, the currach accommodates rowers of any size or height. Practices are held at McKinley Marina several times a week from mid-May through mid-October.
The majority of the club’s expenses are are for storage (indoor winter storage and seasonal storage at the marina) and building, maintaining and transporting currachs, trailers and equipment. Additionally, club members are responsible for their own travel to NACA regattas. While we have driven to all of the regattas, the driving time from Milwaukee to the closest NACA host city is about 10 hours.
